The police disperse a protest by Greek medical staff

Several Greek doctors protested Friday in the Greek capital's center, in front of the Ministry of Health, cutting against the background of wage imposed on the financial crisis in Greece, the police making use of stun gas to disperse, reports AP, taken Agerpres.

Medical staff on Friday in Athens was a three-hour strike. Greece's most powerful unions want to organize a general strike on 11 May after the government announced a new round of wage cuts this month, including a privatization program for 15 million euros.

Greece is trying to avoid her huge debt restructuring to meet the requirements of institutions that have provided loan amounting to 110 billion euros. In Portugal, the unions said the strikes have already affected medical services and waste collection companies.

Doctors and nurses all over the world organize strikes. For example, since last year the Bulgarian Medical Union authorities warned the situation extremely serious in the health system, threatening to strike. And Mexican doctors have stopped work for 24 hours to ask the government to do more to stop the violence.
