Secret agreement between the U.S. and Pakistan: U.S. forces were allowed to unilaterally raid
U.S. forces were allowed to conduct a raid in Pakistan unilaterally if you knew where Osama bin Laden is hiding, according to a secret deal between Washington and Islamabad in the last ten years, say officials quoted by The Guardian in the electronic edition.
The agreement was signed between Pervez Musharraf and George W. Bush in 2001 and renewed during the "transition to democracy" - a period of six months starting in February 2008 when Musharraf was still president but was elected a civilian government. This allowed an American operation against Osama bin Laden on Pakistani territory similar raid last week that killed al-Qaida leader.


"There was an agreement between Bush and Musharraf under which if I knew where Osama, I'd go and capture it, " said one former U.S. official. "The Pakistanis were protesting, but we could stop, " he added.

Under the terms of the collusive agreement, the Pakistanis could not be informed about the attack, which they accepted in principle.

Delcarat Former U.S. official Pakistani protests in the last week is "public face" of the agreement. "I knew they would deny it, " he added.
