Russia believes that the U.S. had the right to expel (kill) Osama bin Laden on Pakistani territory

Russian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov believes that the U.S. had the right to send a special forces unit in Pakistan to kill Osama bin Laden, without informing Islamabad.
"Our position is very simple. After September 11, 2001, the Security Council adopted a resolution that is clearly recognized right to self-defense of the United States without any limitations " Lavrov said in an interview Moskovskie Novosti.

"Those who carried out the operation to eliminate bin Laden had a legal basis " he said.

Pakistani officials have denounced the illegality of the U.S. operation, given that Islamabad had not been informed.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who will meet Thursday with Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari, welcomed the elimination of bin Laden.

In parallel, the Pakistani opposition leader, Nawaz Sharif, has demanded an independent investigation in connection with the death of al-Qaida leader, rejected the military investigation announced by Islamabad.

"We reject completely the committee created by the Prime Minister. is unable to investigate this case thoroughly " said Sharif.
