Mississippi River level record: U.S. is facing the worst flooding in recent 74 years
Mississippi River, which crosses the center of the United States from north to south, has swollen in recent days, reaching a record high of 4.8 km width Monday, causing flooding in towns located on its shores, including Memphis and Tennessee.
Daryl Hissong and his son aged three are among hundreds of people forced to abandon their homes.
"We were told that it takes a month for the water level to drop, " said Hissong.
Army has deployed 150 troops to monitoring of dams in Memphis.
A spokesman, Jim Pogue, said he was confident about the soundness of the dams and found that they "will take", while the water level continues to rise.
In some areas, navigation of the Mississippi is prohibited.
Further south, near New Orleans, the Coast Guard opened the valves that serve to retain water obşinuit, hoping that the river water level will drop.
But Tom Bradshaw from U.S. meteorological services said that "major flooding is expected between Memphis and New Orleans. "
According to him, these are the worst flooding faced Mississippi basin in 1937.
