Approximately half of the world's adult population suffer from migraines, headaches and these were some huge costs of socially and economically, said the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Monday, picked Agerpres.
"Headaches and migraines are seriously underestimated and received little attention from health systems, "said Dr. Shekhar Saxena, director of the WHO mental health.
"Headaches seriously affects people, leaving them unable to work. During migraine attacks, 90% of people postpone housework, about 75% have a low work capacity, and 50% of them give up everything work.
Migraines affect one in six women and that one in twelve men. These same headaches are responsible for the loss of approximately 400,000 individual day of work or school each year, every one million people from countries with developed economies. The economic costs of these lost days per year amounted to some 155 billion euros.
